Industrial & Commercial

East Hoathly, East Sussex

Initially commissioned by the land owner of an industrial estate to carry out a desk study and site investigation, we were subsequently appointed by the commercial developer to carry out a detailed gas risk assessment and prepare a remedial strategy suitable for the proposed head office use. Following the gas monitoring and risk assessment we supervised on site remediation, liaised with the local planning authority agreeing appropriate remediation and provided a completion report at the end of the development process.

Our involvement with the project has provided cost savings to our client by minimising the materials to be exported from site and ensured a rapid agreement to each phase of the works with the local authority.

Worthing, West Sussex

As part of the redevelopment of this former garage and office site in Worthing, West Sussex, we were commissioned by the developer to undertake contaminated land and geotechnical investigations prior to and during construction.

Works included provision of a watching brief for contamination during basement excavations, waste acceptance classification testing to assist waste stream allocation of excavated soils, ongoing groundwater monitoring and sampling, testing and assessments, regulatory body liaison and remedial verification works.

Our investigations allowed delineation of contamination and impacts to groundwater and soils to be assessed. Costs associated with contaminated soil disposal and associated delays to the project were minimised.

Close liaison with both the Environment Agency and the Local Authority ensured site construction works proceeded without delay and sign off of contaminated land related planning conditions on completion of the project.

Mixed Development South East London

We were initially commissioned to carry out a Preliminary Contamination Assessment (Phase 1 desk study) for this site. Potential contamination sources identified included a backfilled canal that previously crossed the site. A targeted intrusive investigation was designed and undertaken that comprised a mix of trial pits, window sample boreholes and deep cable percussion boreholes with groundwater and gas monitoring recording elevated levels of ground gas, petroleum hydrocarbon and PAH contamination beneath the site.

As part of the construction site levels were reduced, with the excavation works producing significant quantity of contaminated materials requiring disposal off site. We were commissioned by the client to provide a contamination watching brief during the excavation process and assist with the segregation of contaminated and inert waste. The watching brief process enabled costs associated with contaminated soil disposal and associated delays to the project to be minimised.

A Remediation Verification report was produced to verify that the remedial works undertaken on site were in line with the agreed Remediation Strategy, allowing sign off of contaminated land related planning conditions on completion of the development.

Littlehampton, West Sussex

Ashdown has been involved with the investigation of numerous phases of this large development of warehouses, offices and production facilities for a nationally known retailer. The developments were located on Greenfield sites and investigations have been designed to provide advice for the design of foundations, ground floors, and road pavements. The company was also commissioned to undertake the detailed design and installation of borehole soakaways at several locations on the development.
