Infrastructure
Littlehampton Harbour, West Sussex
Investigations have included the drilling of boreholes, the installation of monitoring standpipes and production of interpretative reports for the design of sheet pile walls and revetments.

Gosport Marina, Hampshire
As a part of the marina development in Gosport we inspected the existing quay wall to identify tie rod locations. Investigation works also included drilling boreholes and carrying out a programme of laboratory testing to assist in the design of reclamation works and the development of the waterfront for new apartments.
Pevensey, East Sussex
Works were proposed to improve flow measurement on existing water courses throughout the Pevensey Levels, a site of special scientific interest, in East Sussex. We designed investigations to ensure minimal impacts (using window sampler and hand augering techniques), which enabled the soil profile to be modelled and allowed the installation of new measuring weirs and groundwater monitoring standpipes.

Brighton & Hove Bypass
The earthworks contract for the construction of the Hangleton Phase of the A27 bypass involved forming cuttings and embankments through the Chalk of the South Downs. As a part of this project we were commissioned by the earthworks contractor to carry out in situ density tests, saturated moisture content tests, dynamic probing and cable percussion drilling as part of the compliance testing programme required by the specification.
Involvement in other phases of the bypass included undertaking in situ plate bearing tests for the design of temporary works supporting the Falmer over bridge, and undertaking a contamination assessment of a diesel spillage during site clearance works on the Southwick tunnel.

Railtrack Overbridge, Sydenham, Kent
We carried out investigations to assess the cause of cracks noted in the walls of the abutment to an existing overbridge. Hand dug trial pits excavated adjacent to the tracks revealed foundations to the abutment and diamond coring was used to establish the thickness of the brickwork forming the walls. Cable percussion boreholes were excavated from road level to establish the materials used to construct the embankment and to obtain information on the underlying soils for the design of new foundations. Reports were produced advising on the cause of the damage and on the alternatives available for foundation repairs.
