Piling Rig and Crane Bases

We can provide information on the ground conditions specifically required for the design of piling mats and crane bases. This is often a specific requirement under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER).

A number of techniques can be used depending on design requirements, the loads to be imposed by piling plant or cranes and access to the site for the purposes of testing.

Commonly we would undertake plate bearing tests, in situ California Bearing Ratio (CBR) testing, dynamic sampler boreholes/probing or a combination of the above, supplemented where appropriate by laboratory testing, to provide the necessary design parameters.

Depending on your requirements, we can provide advice on the bearing capacity of the soils for outrigger supports etc., the modulus of subgrade reaction and the CBR of the soils/subgrade to assist the design of piling mats and assess likely settlements of the soils under loading.
