Cliff, Kent
Preparation of a detailed desk study was the first step in the
investigation of this former fuel filling station. A comprehensive
instrusive ground investigation was then designed and undertaken
to provide not only foundation design advice but also information
on the contamination status of the Site. A detailed remediation
action plan and method statement was agreed with the Environmental
Health Officer for the removal of buried fuel tanks and subsequent
site remediation. Ashdown staff supervised the remediation works
and produced a closure report for inclusion in the Construction
(Design and Management) Regulations 1994 (CDM) Health and Safety
File for the Site.
Erith, Kent
Preparatory work for a housing development on a large area of farmland
uncovered an unrecorded unlicensed landfill containing asbestos
cement waste. Ashdown staff were called in to identify the extent
of the contamination and to design and supervise its subsequent
remediation. The works were designed and carried out to comply with
the statutory requirements and, upon successful completion, a closure
report was produced for inclusion in the CDM Health and Safety File
for the Site.
Dockland Developments, London
Ashdown has been involved with the redevelopment of numerous former
industrial, commercial and old gas works sites, both in Docklands
and on both banks of the River Thames. The preparation of Desk Study
reports on site history, previous use etc., leading to the careful
design of intrusive ground investigations and gas or groundwater
monitoring programmes is routine for our staff. Reporting for these
schemes usually includes advice on foundation design and environmental
risk assessment. Site remediation, where required, is again designed
and supervised by Ashdown staff.
Pitstone, Bucks
At Pitstone in Buckinghamsire a housing development was proposed
in a former chalk quarry that contained a cement works. Ashdown
designed and undertook a ground investigation to provide data for
the design of foundations and soakaway chambers.
