London Snow World Indoor Ski Centre, Beckton, London

The existing outdoor ski slope, known locally as Beckton Alps, has been redeveloped as an indoor ‘real snow’ ski centre.

Ashdown Site Investigation Limited were appointed as geotechnical and environmental engineering consultants for the development that lies within a former gas works site; the ski slope comprising a spoil heap, formed from the tipping of gas works waste The company was also appointed as Principal Contractor for the ground investigation works under the terms of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 1994.

Ashdown designed and undertook an intrusive ground investigation of the Site to provide a geotechnical interpretative report for the construction of the new buildings. As advisor to the Client, Ashdown worked closely with the structural engineer, specialist building services engineer, earthworks contractor and foundation contractor for the project. Work has included liaison with the local authority and negotiation with the Environment Agency relating to waste management and disposal, environmental protection and long term health and safety issues.

David Lloyd Health Clubs

Ashdown has been involved with the development of a number of sites for this well known chain of health and leisure clubs. Sites investigated have included former landfill waste tips, greenfield land, reclaimed coastal land and old industrial areas. Works have included desk study appraisals, intrusive ground investigations leading to geotechnical and environmental reporting covering the design of earthworks, foundations and hard playing surfaces as well as gas protection measures and site remediation.
